What does it do?
File search finds files and folders by name.
- Admins search the files and folders in their workspace.
- Visitors search within the folders that have been shared with them, so results never include content they can't open.
Search matches names. It does not search the text inside documents; for questions about what documents say, use AI document Q&A.
Who is it for?
Anyone working in a large data room: a buyer looking for "the 2025 audited accounts" across hundreds of files, or an advisor finding a document to update before a process starts.
How does it work?
Type part of a file or folder name in the search box. Admin results come from the workspace. Visitor results are limited to the folders shared with that visitor, under the same permissions that control what they can see.
Which plans include it?
File search is included on every Peony plan: Free, Business, Data Room, Deal Team and Enterprise. Visitors search only what has been shared with them. See pricing.
How does it compare?
Search by file name is a basic feature of most virtual data rooms. In Peony, visitor search respects granular permissions, and indexing numbers every file, so a visitor can search by name or browse by index number.
