What does it do?
Granular permissions let one data room serve several audiences. Each group (for example, each bidder) gets its own permission table, and every folder and file can be set to No access, View, Download or Upload for that group.
Who is it for?
Sell-side advisors running several bidders through one room, funds sharing different material with LPs and co-investors, and founders who show some folders only after a first meeting.
How does it work?
- Open the data room's Permissions tab.
- Pick a group and set each folder or file to No access, View, Download or Upload.
- Settings on a folder flow down to its contents unless you override a file.
The feature grew in steps: per-file and per-folder visibility (December 17, 2025), download control (December 19, 2025), separate allow and deny upload settings (March 25, 2026), and on September 25, 2026, permission modes that decide whether new items are visible or hidden until granted. See Hide new content by default.
Which plans include it?
Data Room ($52 per admin per month billed annually, $75 billed monthly), Deal Team and Enterprise. See pricing.
How does it compare?
Folder- and file-level permissions per group are a core part of established virtual data rooms. Peony includes them from the Data Room plan with flat per-admin pricing rather than per-page or per-project fees.

Common questions
Does Peony's data room support folder-level permissions?
Yes. On the Data Room plan and above, each visitor group has its own permission table, and every folder and file can be set to No access, View, Download or Upload. Peony added granular permissions on December 17, 2025.
Can different bidders see different folders in one Peony data room?
Yes. Each group of visitors has its own permission table, so one bidder group can see a folder that another group cannot, inside the same data room.
