PDF redaction in Peony's virtual data room

PDF redaction has been in Peony's virtual data room since April 27, 2026, on Deal Team and Enterprise: selected names, figures or clauses are permanently removed and saved as a new PDF, so the hidden text can't be copied, searched or recovered.

Plans
Deal Team and Enterprise
For
M&A advisors, Legal teams, Private equity, Healthcare and regulated industries

What does it do?

Redaction lets you draw boxes over sensitive content in a PDF and save a new version with that content removed. It is designed for sharing a document with names, prices or personal data taken out, without leaving the data room.

Who is it for?

Deal teams sharing contracts with customer names hidden, advisors preparing clean-team material, and anyone removing personal data before sharing.

How does it work?

  1. Open a PDF in the data room and choose Redact.
  2. Draw boxes over the content to remove.
  3. Save, then choose to keep or delete the original. If you keep it, set it to No access for groups that should only see the redacted copy.

Which plans include it?

Deal Team ($64 per admin per month billed annually, $89 billed monthly, minimum 4 admins) and Enterprise. See pricing.

How does it compare?

Many teams redact in a desktop PDF editor and upload the result. Doing it in the data room keeps the redacted copy, the original's permissions and the audit trail in one place.

Common questions

Can I redact documents inside Peony's data room?

Yes. On Deal Team and Enterprise, Peony redacts PDFs in the data room and saves a new file with the covered text removed, not just hidden.

Is redacted text removed or only covered?

Removed. Peony saves a new PDF with the text under each box taken out of the file, so it cannot be copied, searched or recovered from the redacted copy.
