Set or Change a Link Expiry

Set an expiry date on a Peony group so its access ends automatically, extend or change it on a live room, and see what to check when an upgrade prompt appears. Available on every plan.

Last updated October 23, 2026

The Expiry control revokes a group's access automatically after a timer or on a date you pick, so you don't have to remember to cut off a counterparty after a process ends. Expiry is available on every plan.

Set an Expiry

  1. Open the data room and click Permissions in the left sidebar.
  2. Select the group in the Groups column and open its Security tab. When you create a new group, the same cards are on step 2, Document permissions.
  3. Click the Expiry card. It reads Never until you set a timer. The Expiry dialog opens with an Auto-expiry timer list.
  4. Choose 1 day, 3 days, 7 days or 30 days. For a specific date, choose Custom, then click Select date and pick it.
  5. Click Done. The card now shows the expiry date, for example 10/27/2026 for a 7-day timer set on Oct 20.
  6. Click Save at the bottom right. Nothing applies until you save. On a new group, Done at the end of the wizard saves it.

Change or Extend an Expiry on a Live Room

You can change an expiry at any time, on any plan. Open the group, click the Expiry card under Security, choose a new timer or a Custom date, click Done, and Save. Each group has its own expiry, so extending one counterparty doesn't affect the others.

If saving shows an upgrade prompt, a higher-tier control is switched on in the same group, usually Dynamic watermark (Data Room tier). Turn that control off and the rest of your settings save on Business. See the security controls.

Free includes a demo data room that is shareable for 3 days only, and its analytics expire with it. A real, persistent data room needs Business or above. See Plans and Pricing.

Expiry Reminders

Peony emails expiry reminders to the link owner. If they don't arrive, a mail filter may be holding them. See Invite or reminder emails aren't being delivered.

Common Questions

Yes, on any plan. Open the group, adjust the expiry under Security, and Save. If that shows an upgrade prompt, a higher-tier control is on in the same group.

What should I do when a deal closes?

Set an expiry or switch the group off, so access doesn't stay open after the deal. To cut a group off immediately, switch its toggle off in the Groups column. See Revoke access.
