Create a Folder in a Data Room
Add a folder to a Peony data room from the Add content menu, name it, and keep a stable order with numbered prefixes. Folders and subfolders need the Business plan or above.

A folder keeps a data room in the order your reader expects, and every folder can carry its own permissions for each group. Folders and subfolders need the Business plan or above.
Steps
- Open the data room, or the folder you want the new folder to sit in.
- Click Add content in the top right. The menu lists File upload, New folder, Folder upload, File shortcuts, Re-signable agreement, Web link, Section, Text and e-Signatures.
- Choose New folder. The Create folder dialog opens with a Name field.
- Type a name and click Create.
Make a Subfolder
Open the folder that should hold it, then follow the same steps. Add content, New folder and Create inside a folder add the new folder in there. Subfolders need the Business plan or above, like folders.
Name Folders So the Order Stays Put
On the Data Room plan and above, a new room has Index documents switched on in its Settings tab, so Peony numbers the items itself. A folder you name 01_Alpha shows as 1. 01_Alpha, and a subfolder inside it shows as 1.1. Sub A. If you use Index documents, give folders plain names. If it's off, or on the Business plan, numbered prefixes in the names keep the order stable. For M&A, borrow the folder tree your counsel uses. A typical deal structure with typed prefixes:

Check Who Can See the New Folder
When you add a folder, it inherits access from every existing group, so visitors can open it as soon as it exists. To start new content hidden instead, turn on Hide new content by default in the room's Settings tab, then grant access in Permissions. See Hide New Content by Default.
Other Ways to Build a Folder Structure
- Bring in a whole folder from your computer with Folder upload (Business+). See Upload a folder.

Can I create a folder on the Free plan?
No. Folders and subfolders need the Business plan or above. See Plans and Pricing for what each plan includes.
Will a new folder be visible to my groups straight away?
Yes, unless Hide new content by default is on. A new folder inherits access from every existing group. Turn on Hide new content by default in the room's Settings tab to start new content hidden.
