Checkout Errors: What to Try First
Stripe checkout failing when you try to upgrade? Common causes, fixes, and how to get a manual Stripe invoice link.
Last updated April 10, 2026
Peony's Stripe checkout sometimes fails silently for certain card/region combinations. If the fixes below don't work, the fastest path is a manual Stripe invoice link from support.
First: Check Your Card
Most failures come from the card, not Peony.
- Card is not expired.
- Card has sufficient funds (watch for business-card daily debit limits).
- Bank hasn't blocked the charge. Some banks flag non-US merchant charges for fraud review — a call to the issuer usually resolves this.
- Billing address matches the card record. Stripe rejects on AVS failure.
Try a Different Browser or Incognito
Stale cookies and extensions can break Stripe silently.
- Open an incognito window, sign in, try again.
- Try a different browser (Chrome vs Safari).
- Disable ad blockers and privacy extensions for
app.peony.inkandcheckout.stripe.com.
Try a Different Card
Stripe is strict with some types:
- Some American Express variants (corporate, non-US).
- EU cards without 3D Secure enrollment.
- Prepaid and gift cards — often rejected outright.
- Virtual cards from privacy services.
If a second card goes through, the first card is the issue.
Wait 24 Hours
If Stripe has already logged a decline, retrying immediately can trigger more fraud flags. Wait 24 hours, ideally on a different network (home vs office Wi-Fi).
Still Failing? Ask for a Manual Invoice Link
Peony can send a Stripe invoice link that bypasses in-app checkout. This is the canonical workaround.
Email sean@peony.ink with:
- Company name and account email
- Plan you want (Pro $20/admin/mo or Business $40/admin/mo) and monthly or annual
- Screenshot of the checkout error (if any)
- Number of admin seats
You'll get a direct Stripe invoice link back. Once paid, your workspace auto-upgrades within a few minutes. Turnaround: a few hours on business days, faster via in-app Crisp chat.
If the invoice link also fails, reply and Peony will escalate — that indicates a card or bank issue, not a Peony-side problem.
Promo Codes
Peony's Stripe checkout sometimes rejects valid promo codes when the code and plan don't line up exactly.
Same fix: email sean@peony.ink with the code and plan. The discount will be applied on the backend and you'll get a pre-discounted invoice link.
Known Issue
Peony is actively fixing Stripe checkout reliability. Certain card/region combos fail silently — no error, just a non-responsive Pay button.
If you've hit Upgrade more than 2-3 times, stop and email support. The manual link is faster than retrying.
