Move a File or Folder to Another Folder
Move a file or folder inside a Peony data room with the Move option or by dragging from the index column. Moves that would create a folder cycle are blocked.

Move a file or folder from its menu, or drag it from the index column.
Steps
- Open the data room.
- Hover the top-right corner of the file or folder and open the three-dot menu, or right-click it.
- Choose Move. The dialog opens at All teams, a list of your teams.
- Find the destination. Hover a row to show Open and Move. Open goes inside a team, data room or folder. Use the back arrow at the top to climb out.
- Click Move on the destination row, or open the destination and click Move here at the bottom of the dialog. The folder the item is already in is labelled Current folder.
A toast reads Item moved successfully, and the item leaves its old folder.
A Moved File Keeps Its Own Permissions
A file keeps the access you set for each group when you move it. A file set to No access for a group stays No access after it moves into a folder that group can view. After a big reorganization, check the group's Permissions table. See Set view, download and upload permissions.
Drag to Move
Drag-to-move also works when you drag from the index (left-most) column.
What Peony Won't Let You Move
Peony blocks moves that would create a folder cycle, such as moving a folder into one of its own subfolders.
Moving Many Items
Bulk multi-select move is not yet available. If you need many items moved at once, contact support and we can move them for you. See Contact Support.
Common Questions
Does a file keep its permissions when I move it?
Yes. Each file keeps the level you set for each group, even if the folder it lands in has a different level.
How do I move a file into another folder?
Hover the top-right corner of the file, open the three-dot menu, and choose Move. In the dialog, open the destination and click Move here, or click Move on its row. Dragging from the index (left-most) column also moves items.
Can I move many files at once?
Move items from the three-dot menu or by dragging from the index column; for a large reorganization, Peony support moves a batch for you.
