Invite Viewers and Track Who Opened
Invite viewers to a Peony data room, see who has opened it, and track per-page activity. Viewers are free and unlimited on every plan.

Open your data room, go to the Permissions tab, enter the viewer's email, click Invite. They get an email with a secure link. Viewers are free and unlimited on every plan — they do not count toward team seats.
1. Open the Permissions Tab
Inside your data room, click Permissions (sometimes labeled Viewers). You'll see everyone you've invited, their link assignment, and their last-seen activity.
2. Enter Viewer Emails
Click Invite Viewer. Paste a comma-separated list to bulk-invite. For each invite, you can:
- Assign the viewer to a specific link (watermarked, NDA-gated version you intended)
- Group viewers by company for tracking
- Add a display name so the invite email reads "Hi [Name]"
3. Send
Click Send Invites. Each viewer gets a branded email with the secure link. If you configured email verification, NDA gate, or password, the viewer hits those gates before seeing files.
See Who Has Opened
On the Permissions tab, each email shows an access status:
- Invited — email sent, not yet opened
- Accepted / Viewed — opened the room at least once
- Last activity — timestamp of most recent session
Status flips from Invited to Accepted the moment the viewer opens the link. No manual accept step.
Track Per-Page Activity
Open the Analytics tab for:
- Most Active Users by Duration — ranked list of every viewer by total time
- Per-viewer sessions — start time, dwell time, page order
- Page-level reads — which pages, how long
- Per-document views — which files each viewer opened
Filter by date range, drill into individual sessions. Useful for investor updates ("who read the growth section?"), sell-side deals ("which buyer spent time on the customer concentration slide?"), and consulting ("did the client read the appendix?").
Resend or Revoke
From the Permissions tab:
- Resend an invite
- Revoke access — the viewer's next click returns "link not found"
- Regenerate the link to invalidate one viewer's URL
Revocation is instant.
Common Mistakes
- "Invite Viewer" vs "Invite Team". Viewer invites are free and unlimited. Team invites add paid admin seats. See Invite Your Team.
- Group email for multiple investors. You lose per-person analytics. Invite each individual.
- Assuming the invite always arrives. Corporate spam filters can silently reject. Ask the viewer to check spam or send the URL from your own email.
- Leaving access open after a deal closes. Set a link expiry or revoke manually.
