You rename a file or folder from its menu in the data room. A room and a group are renamed in their own places, covered below.
Rename a File or Folder
- Open the data room.
- Open the item's menu: hover its top-right corner and click the … icon, or right-click it.
- Choose Rename. A dialog titled Rename this file (or Rename this folder) opens with the current name in the box.
- Type the new name and click Save.
For a file the box includes the extension, for example report.pdf, so keep the extension when you edit the name. In the room the file card shows the name without it.
A file's menu lists Rename, Set Thumbnail, Move, Duplicate and Delete. A folder's or data room's menu also lists Download. See Delete a file or folder for what Delete does.
Rename the Data Room Itself
Click the pencil icon next to the room's name at the top of the room. The Rename this data room dialog opens. Type the new name and click Save. The same Rename option is on the room's card on your home screen. See Brand your rooms.
Rename a Group or Link
Group and link names are edited on the Visitors step, not in Settings. Open the group, change the Group name there, and click Save at the bottom right. The visitor-facing room name is edited the same way. See Rename a group that still shows the template name.
After You Upload a New Version
Uploading a new version keeps a file's place and its link, but the file takes the new file's name. Rename it afterwards if you want the old name back. See Upload a new version.
Common Questions
Why did my file get a new name after I uploaded a new version?
Upload new version keeps the file's place and link, but the file shows the new file's name. Open the file's … menu and choose Rename to put the old name back.
Where do I rename a group or a link?
On the Visitors step of the group, not in Settings. Open the group, change the Group name, and click Save at the bottom right.
